In October, a brand new production of the classic musical “The King & I” opened at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow and deafblind people were part of the audience, thanks to the generosity of both the theatre and the critically acclaimed show’s producers. In recognition of National Giving Week, the King’s Theatre and the producers of “The King and I” donated tickets to Deafblind Scotland. The charity supports adults with combined sight and hearing loss and highly skilled guide/communicators were on hand to interpret the performance using a special tactile language.

Drena O’Malley, Deafblind Scotland’s Resources Manager said: “It’s
so easy for deafblind people to lose touch with the outside world. As people’s
sight and hearing diminishes, so too does their ability to communicate, to
access information and to get out and about. We’re here to help them
lead full and active lives and the opportunity to go to the theatre meant
a great deal to our members.”
