Drena O’Malley, who was until very recently Deafblind Scotland’s Chief Executive, was presented with a Sunday Mail ‘Unsung Hero’ award on 29th October.

The paper was inundated with entries from the public nominating Scots they felt had made a difference in the world or their own community. However, Drena’s work with deafblind people was considered truly inspirational.
She was suggested by one of our members, Clark Steven, who was keen to highlight the contribution she has made to his life through her work in creating a guide/communicator service.
Although fully deaf and blind, Clark is still able to follow the fortunes of his favourite team – Celtic - on the palm of his hand. A Guide/Communicator takes him to the games and relays all the action to him using a special tactile system they developed together.
The award ceremony was a particularly poignant occasion for Drena who stepped down as Chief Executive only a few weeks ago to take on the role of Resources Manager.
